Digital positioning

Ads that pay for themselves

An ad is judged by the sales it generates, and to see them you have to measure well. The technical foundation is sending Meta every purchase or booking from the website and from the server, without duplicating it.

What can be done

The ad structures Meta offers and when each one is useful.

Methods

An account organized into a few campaigns

A few campaigns with enough budget learn faster than many small ones. Each one has a different audience and event, with no overlap.

Casa Aurora account structuretext
Campaign 1 · Sales · Advantage+                    70% of the budget
  hotel catalog: rooms, price, availability
  event: Purchase with value · excludes guests from the last 90 days
  creatives: 3 videos 9:16 and the dynamic catalog

Campaign 2 · Engagement · WhatsApp destination     20%
  location: 20 km around the hotel
  offer: Tuesday menu at the restaurant
  event: conversation started → booking marked in the chat

Campaign 3 · Sales · past guests                   10%
  audience: guest list (encrypted) and website visits in 180 days
  offer: extra night with breakfast

Recommendation. Separate new customers from repeat purchases, as Mallet London did in the case below: each group responds to a different offer.

Tech stack

Measurement
Meta Pixel on the website and Conversions API from the server, deduplicated with a shared event ID.
Campaigns
Simple structure, with Advantage+ sales or leads campaigns when there is enough data, and separation between new customers and repeat purchases.
Creatives
Several versions per ad (format, hook, offer) so the platform finds the one that sells best.
Incrementality
Conversion lift studies or regional tests to know how much the ad really sells.

Under the hood

A booking sent to Meta from the server (Conversions API)JSON
{
  "data": [{
    "event_name": "Purchase",
    "event_time": 1791350400,
    "event_id": "res_48213",
    "action_source": "website",
    "user_data": {
      "em": ["<SHA-256 of the email>"],
      "ph": ["<SHA-256 of the phone number>"]
    },
    "custom_data": { "currency": "MXN", "value": 8400 }
  }]
}

The same event_id is sent from the browser Pixel: Meta uses it so the same booking isn't counted twice. Email and phone travel as SHA-256 hashes, normalized first (lowercase, no spaces, phone with country code). $8,400 is the average booking value in this example: 27 bookings add up to $226,800.

What we measure

ROAS
Attributed revenue divided by ad spend.
CPA
Cost per acquisition: spend divided by purchases or bookings.
MER
Total business revenue divided by all marketing spend; it avoids relying only on what each platform reports.
Frequency
Times the same person saw the ad; if it climbs too high, the creative wears out.

Case analysis

Mallet London: cleaning up the account so the ads return twice as much

Mallet London · United Kingdom, 2024

The independent luxury footwear brand had scattered campaigns that were hard to measure. Together with its agency, cbsocial, it rebuilt the way it advertised on Instagram and Facebook.

What they did, step by step

  1. Simplified the account structure: fewer, clearer campaigns.
  2. Mixed formats: customer content, studio photos and video.
  3. Let the platform choose where to show each ad.
  4. Separated campaigns for new customers from repeat purchase campaigns.
  5. Set up full purchase measurement on the website.
+102%return on ad spend (ROAS)
+66%revenue
−44%cost per result

The mechanism

  1. Simplified accountfewer campaigns
  2. Mixed creativesUGC, photos, video
  3. Advantage+automatic placements
  4. Pixel and Conversions APIfull measurement
  5. New and repeatseparate campaigns

Why it worked. Less fragmentation, better creatives and measurement that made it possible to move budget toward what was selling.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need the Conversions API if I already have the Pixel?

Because blockers and browser privacy restrictions make the Pixel lose events. Sending them from the server as well recovers that information and improves optimization.

Does Advantage+ replace manual work?

It automates the audience, the placements and the budget allocation. The offer, the creatives and clean data for every sale are still the job of whoever runs the account, and the automation’s performance depends on that.
